The case is a small parcel sent to our granddaughter's children for X-mas.
The parcel was sent from Lakewood, Ohio, on Nov. 11th 2012. On Friday, Nov. 23rd, we got e-mail from our granddaughter that the parcel is on hold in Prague, because the contents (box of candy, mittens, T-shirts, socks, X-mas decoration, custom jewelry, all for her two small children) is by "about SIX (6) dollars" over the newly set permissible limit and for this reason she must pay custom duty 96 Kc plus DPH, all together 115 Kc, plus for additional something called "zpracovani deklarace" (whatever this idiotic nonsense is) additional 180 Kc. Till then the parcel will be held "free of charge" (bez poplatku ???) till Dec. 5th, after that with a 10 Kc per day fine.
Identity of the parcel held somewhere in Prague - "skladove cislo: B20221112 a podaci cislo: CW162029174US".
My wife called to this establishment "ceska posta" (257-019-301) for inquiry. Man who answered did not speak English, did not introduce himself, refused to give his name, and then instead of any answer, without any explanation, hung up - is this how your "Czech officials" handle official business?
This "newly set Czech rules", are in my view a state sanctioned highway robbery. To steal little children's gifts sent by their great grandparents, or ask their parents to pay for "about six dollars" 300 Kc so called "DPH and custom duty" is quite disgusting, offensive and insulting. Your President, Mr. Klaus, during an official visit overseas shamelessly steals fancy pen (abcnews.go.com › International ) and now he wants to steal children's lollipops, too? (I can gladly send him full box, if he so dearly desires them).
I advised my granddaughter not to pay a single "halir", but if those Czech state robbers insist, to tell them to send the parcel back - she did not ask for it, it was our wish to give few trinkets to our great grandchildren, so it is not her duty to contribute her hard earned money to greedy and corrupt Czech politicians for their extravaganza parties and real estate properties.
Any comment to this complaint?
