The EPP Group in the European Parliament has always played a leading role in the dialogue on the crucial need for Europe to carry out a comprehensive reassessment of European history and Europe-wide recognition of all historical aspects of modern Europe [which] will strengthen European integration.

Based on the European Commission's Report The memory of the crimes committed by totalitarian regimes in Europe, an EPP Hearing will take place on Wednesday 19 October 2011 from 15.00-18.30 hrs in Room A3E-2 of the European Parliament. We believe that this report is a very important step for Europe not only in dealing with the sensitive and complex issues of the past but because "preserving and promoting the memory of the crimes committed by totalitarian regimes is also crucial, in particular to educate younger generations on the importance of promoting democracy and fundamental rights."
