My God, Ukrainians have been fighting against Russian efforts to destroy us as a nation throughout our history. Just in the last hundred there has been famine, the Bolsheviks, Stalin's repression and purges, the executed revival, the collapse of the cccp, the first Maidan, the second Maidan, the annexation of Crimea, the Donbas, now the invasion war.

God, that's really strong. I didn't believe that in today's complex and relativizing world, evil could be so clearly visible, so explicit, so black, and worthy of such a strong and fundamental hatred. And that there would be so many strays unable or unwilling to recognize it. JŠ

I have asked Josef Mašín to answer a few questions about the current situation in Ukraine. He has summarised his views in the following text, for which I thank him warmly.

Putin has never accepted the collapse of the Soviet Union. The paranoia inherent in Putin was the driving force behind the KGB, for which Putin worked and which prepared him for his future career. His first attempt to return Russia to its former glory took place in Georgia in 2008. Putin is not the first and will not be the last to try to exercise his ambitions in the way he is now demonstrating in Ukraine. Not only Stalin, Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Mao, Pol Pot, the Ayatollahs, Kim Jong-un, Xi Jinping and others have preceded him or will follow him. It is the task of the leaders of the civilised world to prevent or counter their actions. The present ones have failed in this task.

We received from Poland a remarkable text, the Russian version of which was found in the office of former Polish President Boleslaw Bierut. It contains directives from the Moscow headquarters of the KGB, sent to a cell of that organisation working at the Soviet embassy in Warsaw. They were written in 1947. The cold methodicalness with which the KGB prepared the country's complete subordination to the interests of the superpower must still raise eyebrows today. And it also raises the question: Did the KGB cell at the USSR embassy in Prague receive similar instructions? It is not impossible, some points of the instructions are too reminiscent of the main principles of the political practice of the Communist Party in the 1950s.

A Polish translation of the instructions was published in the September 2, 1989 issue of the U.S. magazine DZIENNIK ZWIAZKOVI (Zgoda), citing the text published in the Polish newspaper. The Czech text is as accurate as possible and, given what we know of the authors, we waive any claim to beauty of style.

Wir erhielten aus Polen einen bemerkenswerten Text, dessen russische Fassung im Büro des ehemaligen polnischen Präsidenten Boleslaw Bierut gefunden wurde. Er enthält Direktiven der Moskauer KGB-Zentrale, die an eine Zelle dieser Organisation in der sowjetischen Botschaft in Warschau gerichtet sind. Sie wurden 1947 geschrieben. Die kalte Methodik, mit der der KGB die vollständige Unterordnung des Landes unter die Interessen der Supermacht vorbereitete, muss auch heute noch aufhorchen lassen. Und es wirft auch die Frage auf: Hat die KGB-Zelle in der UdSSR-Botschaft in Prag ähnliche Anweisungen erhalten? Es ist nicht ausgeschlossen, dass einige Punkte der Anweisungen zu sehr an die wichtigsten Grundsätze der politischen Praxis der Kommunistischen Partei in den 1950er Jahren erinnern.

Eine polnische Übersetzung der Anweisungen wurde in der Ausgabe der US-Zeitschrift DZIENNIK ZWIAZKOVI (Zgoda) vom 2. September 1989 unter Berufung auf den in der polnischen Zeitung veröffentlichten Text veröffentlicht. Der tschechische Text ist so genau wie möglich, und angesichts dessen, was wir über die Autoren wissen, verzichten wir auf jeden Anspruch auf einen schönen Stil.

Der Tag der offenen Tür fand von 14:00 bis 19:00 Uhr statt. Ich verbrachte 2 Stunden in einer wunderbaren, wahrhaft europäischen Atmosphäre. Keine tschechischen Medien oder Politike habe ich  gesehen. Ich habe die 3 Videos unten und dieFOTOGALERIE aufgenommen. 

Im ersten Video können Sie die EU-Hymne hören, gefolgt von einer großartigen Rede des deutschen Botschafters in der Tschechischen Republik, Herrn Andreas Künne, den Hymnen der Tschechischen Republik, Deutschlands und der Ukraine, die ich symbolisch beendet habe. Das zweite zeigt, wie die Bundeswehrmusik auch spielen kann. Das dritte Video zeigt eine Demonstration tschechischer Bürger zur Unterstützung der Ukraine vor der deutschen Botschaft. Ich habe alles geschafft, was ich vorhatte, mit Ausnahme des Treffens mit dem Botschafter - wir haben uns kurz vor meiner Abreise getroffen. Ich traf auch den ehemaligen Europaabgeordneten und Träger des europäischen Karl-IV-Preises, Milan Horacek, der sich mit einem kaputten Bein auf dem Botschaftsgelände bewegte, wie ein "Körper ohne Seele". Ich begrüßte ihn und bot ihm die Hand an. Er lehnte ab und sagte:  "Sie sind  einböser Mann."

This is apparently another part of war propaganda, in the traditional Russian "style". The Ukrainians can handle such precision shooting, but hardly the demoralized Russian troops, who desperately lack the latest military equipment. This is evidenced by the fact that the video was sent to me by Czech comrades, supporters of Putin. The EU should block all Russian assets, the stolen property of the oligarchs and hand everything over to Ukraine - as a Russian war tax. Ukraine is also fighting to preserve European values. It is already a de facto member of the EU. If we do not support Ukraine sufficiently, we will pay much more. JŠ

The "modern" way of waging war. Those who make decisions about the lives of others should sit in tanks - in the quiet of their secure, luxurious offices and bunkers. Russian television will not show such footage. Ukrainians are also fighting and dying for our freedom – in Czech Republic there has been a record increase in the number of holidays bought abroad, including to far-flung destinations...

Once the West succumbs to Russia's nuclear blackmail, it loses, and a nuclear catastrophe will be all the more likely in the future. Decisions must be made and actions must be taken. We know where the policy of appeasement has led and how it has ended. JŠ

Dass Österreich oder Deutschland Putins Kriegsverbrechen nicht angemessen beantworten können, ist die logische Folge schwerster politischer Fehler der letzten zehn Jahre, findet eXXress-Kolumnist Christian Ortner, und fürchtet, dass die Menschen in der Ukraine dafür den Preis zahlen müssen.

Als „Waterloo im Wüstensand“ bezeichnete die Zürcher „NZZ“die jüngsten panischen Versuche zahlreicher europäischer Politiker, darunter auch die österreichische Energieministerin Eleonore „Jetset“ Gewessler, das Gas-Emirat Katar dazu zu bewegen, kurzfristig mehr Gas zu liefern, um weniger von Russland abhängig zu sein. Das wird leider schlicht und ergreifend nicht funktionieren.

„Unsere Kapazitäten sind mehrheitlich in langfristigen Verträgen in Asien gebunden. Das erlaubt es uns leider nicht, kurzfristig größere Mengen abzuzweigen und nach Europa umzuleiten“, beschied der oberste Gas-Verkäufer des Scheichtums die diversen Petenten aus Europa höchst unmissverständlich.
