DHARAMSHALA, MAY 30: Chinese authorities in Kardze County have forced Tibetans to participate in a drill to tackle protests by Tibetans and self-immolations on May 26.
Images circulating on the Internet show Chinese military and police personnel trying to extinguish the flames on a burning dummy. Another image showed several Tibetans with banners charging towards security forces.
A Tibetan source said Tibetan government employees were forced to participate in the exercise that is aimed at cracking down on Tibetan protests against the Chinese government.
Kardze has been at the heart of several protests by Tibetans and a spate of self immolations since 2009.
A Tibetan source said that the participating Tibetans were apprehended with threats that their family members would be interrogated if they refused to cooperate.
Since 2009, 131 Tibetans have set themselves ablaze protesting against China, its policies in Tibet and demanding that the Tibetan leader Dalai lama be allowed to return to Tibet.
