… Mr. Fiala was successful with his claims against the Czech State before the European Court of human rights in Strasbourg; the Czech courts do not respect, or more precisely, they ignore decisions of this Court in which the previous three incarcerations had been declared unlawful. For example, during an open hearing before the County Court of Kladno, Mr. Fiala was on the Judge´s order for almost half an hour left with the hand cuffs and was surrounded by four members of the judicial guards and police, as if he was the gravest criminal! Mr. Fiala couldn't therefore even take notes. The Czech mainstream media still don´t inform general public about this scandalous case. …

Ing. Jiří Fiala, a political prisoner in the Czech Republic, won his case at the European Court for Human Rights. Instead of the Czech Republic fulfilling its international obligation accepting the European Court´s decision, the Czech Republic decided to persecute him. He has been detained illegally three times in the past for several months without any proper trial. Every time he was set free by the Court of Appeal. Once, even president Václav Klaus had to intervene. At the moment he is in detention again and on May 3rd, 2011 he started a hunger strike to protest his treatment. Because of this, citizens have asked Amnesty International for help. To their surpri sed, however, they were told that Amnesty International has a limited mandate in the Czech Republic which doesn´t allow them to work on cases concerning Czech political prisoners. We think that this might be a case of Amnesty International´s unjust and unbalanced position towards Czech prisoners.

Moto: 14 months of incarceration for organizing a march that never took place, and for posting political stickers. Actions that are not illegal and, on top of it, never proven! To imprison and punish innocent citizens like some “murderers” with an excuse that they could become ones. This is another proof that the Czech justice is fully under the spell of political interests. We can ask - what else can be expected from the post-Communist justice of so called “Velvet Revolution”?
