In Morocco they call them the occupied "Sebtah and Melilah". The rest of the world knows them as the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla in North Africa. They are the only piece of European territory on mainland Africa - a political and legal reality that has never been recognized by Morocco, which has continued to demand their return, along with four other smaller territories in the Mediterranean all in the narrow strait of Gibraltar.

The Czech population has grown by 4% since 1980. Germany's was rising at the same speed until the immigration wave of the past few years accelerated it to 7% growth compared to 1980. The population of China has risen by 44% since the one-child policy was imposed in 1980. The world's population has grown so far this year by 34m, but the New York Times reported last month that, "All over the world, countries are confronting population stagnation and a fertility bust, a dizzying reversal unmatched in recorded history that will make first-birthday parties a rarer sight than funerals, and empty homes a common eyesore."
Frank Swiaczny, a demographer who was chief of population trends and analysis for the U.N., said that, "A paradigm shift is necessary.... Countries need to learn to live with and adapt to decline." It's not all bad, the Times said, without mentioning covid or the coronavirus: "Smaller populations could lead to higher wages, more-equal societies, lower carbon emissions and a higher quality of life for the smaller numbers of children who are born." Get used to the idea, the NYT is telling its readers.

We live in the era of destruction, during which the Western world is systematically tearing down many of the monuments of its civilization built over generations, some of which were good, and some bad. We first wrote these words here five years ago, when the issue was a new way of interpreting constitutions so that the rights of everyone in the world were put on the same level as the citizens of a given country.
With covid, the rights of the individual were revoked in favor of a public good defined to mean that any group identified by the government could be shown special treatment or mistreatment, even if the net gain to society was vastly negative. Entire economies and states of health, education and human relations were torn apart, all in the name of keeping them together. Covid was the culmination of the loss of human reason, which had set us apart from other animals. We accepted that if our politicians and medical experts lead us over the cliff, it is the herd's duty to follow.

The Swedish Public Health Agency has developed national criteria for assessing freedom from infection in covid-19.
The PCR technology used in tests to detect viruses cannot distinguish between viruses capable of infecting cells and viruses that have been neutralized by the immune system and therefore these tests cannot be used to determine whether someone is contagious or not. RNA from viruses can often be detected for weeks (sometimes months) after the illness but does not mean that you are still contagious. There are also several scientific studies that suggest that the infectivity of covid-19 is greatest at the beginning of the disease period.
